Working with The Window of Tolerance

Saturday 13th March 2021 10am – 4pm (5 hours CPD)

This workshop is designed for counsellors and psychotherapists who work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression or trauma. 

Workshop Aims

  • Understanding how anxiety, depression and trauma relate to the fight/flight responses
  • Recognise responses to fight/flight experiences and place these on the Window of Tolerance
  • Find out how the brain and body function in fight/flight responses
  • Learn the 9 stages to fight/flight
  • Develop skills to keep clients out of their fight/flight responses and inside their Window of Tolerance
  • Workshop includes many exercises including mindfulness and exercises to promote the release of oxytocin
  • A certificate of attendance will be provided.

Understanding Social Anxiety

Delivered by Alan Eaton, Dip Couns, Dip CBT, Cert. Supv, Tutor

Saturday 8th May 2021 10am – 4pm

This workshop explores the origins of social anxiety, identifying the processes that exacerbate social anxiety. We will look at the ideas of David Clark, author of ‘A Cognitive Perspective on Social Phobia’ (The International Handbook of Social Anxiety: Concepts, Research and Information Relating to Self and Shyness, Chapter 18).

Workshop Aims

The workshop includes:

  • Understanding facts about social anxiety
  • Activated assumptions relating to seeing self as a social object
  • Understand the processes and how to help clients change their thinking
  • How to work with clients to alleviate somatic and cognitive symptoms
  • Conceptualise the client through a Clark’s protocol
  • A certificate of attendance is provided

Integrating CBT tools and skills into your practice

  • Exploring Beck’s cognitive model
  • Exploring Ellis’ ABC model
  • How to identify and work with patterns of negative thinking
  • How to work with cognitions, affects, behaviours and physiology
  • How to conceptualise a client’s presenting issues and their maintaining processes
